  JOB DESCRIPTION:
  At Home-Start Barnet we train volunteers to support families who have at least one child under the age of 5 and who live in the Borough of Barnet. This involves the volunteer spending about 3 hours per week in the family home providing emotional and practical support. By visiting a family in their own home and offering this friendship Home-Start volunteers represent a lifeline for many families who are finding it difficult to cope.
  We also run parent and toddler groups, parenting programs, creches and other group activities for which we need the help of our volunteers.
  
  Home-Start Barnet is part of a national voluntary organization, Home-Start UK. We have a total of 337 branches throughout the country, all of which support families for anything from a couple of months to a number of years in situations as varied as isolation, physical or mental illness, bereavement, multiple births, or simply finding parenthood difficult to cope with. Nationally we currently have 11,000 home-visiting volunteers supporting 31,000 families and 68,000 children.
  Comprehensive training is given to the volunteer at outset, free of charge, followed by ongoing training, supervision and support groups.
  
  PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
  The role does require that you give at least 3 hours per week of your time, plus travel time and time for training. We do not require any specific skills but do ask that you have parenting experience.
