The Role
You will be a (GSCC registered) Social Worker, qualified Probation Officer or hold a PCEP (Youth Justice) to be considered for this post. It is vital that you have knowledge of relevant legislation and recent experience of at least one year in duration of working in either a YOS (preferably) or in the Probation Service. Managing a caseload in line with the National Standards governing our work will be at the core of your role in this multi agency team with colleagues from Education, Probation Police and Substance Misuse. It is imperative that you are able to communicate effectively with young people and their families and that you have good written, verbal and presentational skills.
The role will include:
- The supervision of young offenders on court orders and community sentences, and after their release from secure institutions
- Completing risk assessments and planning how to manage future risk
- Preparing pre-sentence reports for the courts and reports for Youth Offender Panels
- Visiting young people in secure institutions, and making risk assessments and resettlement plans for after their release
- Drawing up Intervention plans and ensuring they are implemented by onward referrals where required or direct delivery through individual or group work
You will need to be able to represent the YOS at court and at a range of other professionals meetings as well as liaising with other YOTs, out-borough Courts and the Borough's solicitors. The capacity to work effectively with partner agencies is also critical.
