The ideal candidate will already be working in an environment providing services to children and young people and be educated to degree level.
Norfolk has approximately 4800 children with statements. Annually the number of referrals is rising in the last two years and will this year be nearly 1000 which is a rise of over 300.
The successful candidate will gather information from the professional team around the child that informs the assessment, planning, service delivery and review processes within the required statutory timescales. They will act primarily as the voice of the child.
Just some of the responsibilities of this exciting post:
To ensure that the voice of the child, parent / carer is recorded and taken into account in the assessment and planning, service delivery and review processes.
Establish and co-ordinate education plans for children identified as having additional needs via statutory assessment or targeted priority groups eg those attending SRBs.
Lead Professional for cases relating to children undergoing statutory assessment and holding Statements of Special Educational Needs to ensure their entitlement to an education suitable for their age, aptitude and ability.
To represent NCC Children's Services in Mediation.
To be the responsible officer for SEND Tribunal cases and represent the Local Authority in Tribunal Proceedings as required.
Qualifications and Skills required
Demonstrable experience of working within a legal or statutory framework and meeting requirements, preferably in the SEND or related field.
Experience of working in a role which included:
• direct work with children, young people and families.
• Communication and interaction with other agencies and professionals to obtain and share information
Proven experience of managing a caseload and meeting deadlines.
The post holder will be subject to an enhanced disclosure and barring check due to the post being in direct contact with children and vulnerable adults.
