Backstop is currently seeking an experienced and committed senior chlldren's social worker with an excellent track record in child protection to work full time within a children's services team based in Brent.
The post holder will coordinate and manage a support service for parents who are in the child protection conference system. This may involve up to 15 volunteers/students/interns.
The ideal candidate will possess highly developed specialist knowledge of children's social work practice and be registered with the HCPC. They will have experience of a complex caseload and child protection conferences.
The pay rate for this locum specialist social worker job is up to £38 per hour (LTD Company Equivalent).
Some of the responsibilities of the senior social worker:
Carry out her/his duties with due regard to the Council’s Customer Care, Equal Opportunities and Best Value Policies and incorporating the Council’s Core Competencies.
Take reasonable care for the safety and health of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts; and to work with management to comply with Service/Unit procedures and protocols and with Brent Council’s Health and Safety Policy and all guidance, instructions and risk assessments. In particular the jobholder is required to attend training relevant to their post in order to ensure their health and safety responsibilities are met.
Understand the value of information to the Council and to contribute to good information governance by keeping information safe, accurate and up to date, and available to those who need it. Abide by the council’s information governance policies.
Manage a budget to provide sessional chairs of child protection conferences on behalf of the Head of Safeguarding.
Provide monthly budget reports and forecasts to the Head of Safeguarding
To support the Head of Safeguarding by ensuring that the child protection conference service is of a high standard, continuously improves and provides a robust mechanism to ensure children in Brent are adequately safeguarded from harm.
Provide evidence of quality assurance of the child protection conference service to the Head of Safeguarding.
To develop and promote quality assurance systems for social work practice in the child protection conference system: this involves providing formal feedback to Brent Social Care conference attendees about the quality of their written and verbal report to conference and triggering the escalation procedure when there is evidence that child protection plans have not been progressed.
Provide management support and supervision to sessional independent chairs of child protection conferences.
Develop and manage services to support parents through the child protection conference
Contribute to the provision of an effective child protection service by chairing of child protection conferences.
Develop and implement outcome focused child protection plans for children in Brent.
Chair multi-agency strategy meetings to provide leadership to investigate complex child abuse cases and allegations against professionals.
Provide expert advice to all C&F staff and multi-agency partners about child protection; this includes offering a dedicated session per week for case consultation.
Develop specialist knowledge and expertise in order to influence social work practice in the field of child protection.
Requirements of the specialist senior social worker:
Degree or equivalent in social work
Current HCPC registration
Solid experience in this area
