The president of the Prison Governors Association has attacked the government's management of prisons in England and Wales. Andrea Albutt wrote an open letter after recent violence at prisons in Hertfordshire and Wiltshire.
She said the unrest was causing "grave concern" - adding that governors faced "unacceptable stress and anxiety".
A Personal Message from the President
I would urge you to read the actual text of the letter from the president of the Prison Governors Association which is frank and brutal in its assessment of the current situation, and whom is to blame!
'Teach pupils to avoid gangs' - children's commissioner
"Pupils should be taught in school how to avoid being sucked into gangs or exploited by older criminals, the children's commissioner has said. Anne Longfield said personal, social, health and economics education (PSHE) lessons should help children spot when they are being targeted by gangs.
It follows reports children are being used by criminals as "money mules".
Council to shift children’s services into company
"Children’s services in Reading will move to a new company “wholly owned” by the council, the local authority has announced.
“The standalone company will focus solely on the operation of children’s services, allowing social workers and other staff to concentrate on their core day to day activity,” the council said in a statement."
I wonder of this is the future model for children's services?
